What the Bible Says for Christians to Think About This Event

1. The event glorified God. The blessed God restrains evil events; but when He does allow them, they are for His glory as Lord of nations. This is true whether it is Herod killing the little children of Bethlehem or Cho Sueng-Hui’s rampage. There were no more and no less killed by this pervert than exactly how many and whom God ordained. Psalm 76:10 says, “Surely the wrath of man shall praise thee: the remainder of wrath shalt thou restrain.”
2. God sends evil (Amos 3:6; Is 45:7; Job 2:10). When evil occurs in a city, it is there by God’s choice and judgment. It does not surprise God, and it is according to His plan and purpose. Amos warned Israel, “Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?” (Amos 3:6).
3. God turns nations into hell (Ps 9:15-20). He will not sit by forever, allowing pagans to do as they wish; He will judge severely and turn nations into hell to teach them fear. He will take them in their own devices, which they defended and promoted (Ps 50:16-22; 36:1-4). Of course, this God is not known today, but popular opinion has never determined truth.
4. God is angry with the wicked every day (Ps 7:11-13). Our nation is a cesspool of sin and wickedness, yet it thinks by printing, “In God we trust,” on its currency that God will be appeased. But what about abortion, adultery, drugs, evolution, forbidding the Ten Commandments, labor unions, paganism, sodomy, outlawing public prayer, and witchcraft!
5. God turns His enemies against each other. It was common for the LORD Jehovah to turn His enemies against one another (Judges 7:22; I Samuel 14:16-20; II Chron 20:22-24; Isaiah 19:2). When Shiites kill Sunnis (or vice versa), it is nothing new. If Oswald killed Kennedy, who was more wicked, based on Bible definitions? An adulterer or a murderer?
6. America’s youth are obsessed with violence. Virginia Tech endorsed violence as much as any university. Its distinguished professor of literature, an adoring fan of the violent rapper Tupac Shakur, Nikki Giovanni, said, “Kids write about murder and suicide all the time.” Only twisted kids write about murder and suicide at any time. She needs Cho’s counseling!
7. God hates lovers of violence (Ps 11:4-6). America defends and promotes violent music, movies, video games, and literature. Our nation has a culture of violence, which programs infants by violent cartoons. Why the surprise when one person acts out the inputs they all defend and enjoy? The great surprise should be that events like this do not occur daily!
8. Be sure your sin will find you out (Num 32:23). How many of the tearful, candle-holding Virginia Tech children have enjoyed violent movies, music, video games, or literature … before even considering their many other sins? How much accumulated violence is on that campus in the four media listed? They have reaped what they sowed (Ps 7:15-16).
9. Music is powerful for good or evil (Ex 32:15-20; I Sam 16:14-23). Music can elevate or destroy the human soul. This murderous monster loved Led Zeppelin and Nirvana; and he sat listening over and over to the inane lyrics of “Shine” by the group Collective Soul, as if in a trance. The god of this world answered the song’s request to shine on him!
10. Withdrawn teenagers are wrong. A teenager does not have the right to withdraw from the family, sit in his or her room alone, and listen to music. This is not healthy; it is passive rebellion or foolish depression. Christians are commanded to love others, and being such a loner is sin. Melancholy thoughts while alone are hardly ever constructive or positive.
11. Foolish thoughts are sin (Pr 24:9). No one has the right to think, speak, or write about murder, suicide, pedophilia, or other sinful subjects. The Virginia Tech pervert gave himself away by his writing. But creative writing and literature classes promote perverse thinking, as Giovanni admitted above. We must protect freedom of speech, they foam.
12. Guns had little to do with it. The Bible teaches that it is not what goes into the mouth that defiles, but what comes out of the heart. Guns no more kill than bread causes gluttony or wine causes drunkenness. Evil hearts abuse bread to cause gluttony and abuse guns to kill. It is one further symptom of the insanity of educated persons to want to outlaw guns.
13. The secret things belong to God (Deut 29:29). We cannot determine for sure what God’s many purposes were in this event, though we know He surely had one for His own praise. He is easily capable of accomplishing millions or billions of objectives with one such event. But we can know exactly how He expects us to think, speak, and act in all matters.
14. God did not miss a sparrow. In the face of evil or uncertainty, the child of God should be able to find perfect peace in the LORD Jehovah, Who oversees every sparrow, and His children are worth much more to Him than many sparrows (Matt 10:28-31; Isaiah 26:3-4). No one accidentally came into the gunman’s attack, and no one accidentally avoided it.
15. God is more than love. Our president tried to comfort victims’ families with a “loving God,” but the God of the Bible hates sin and sinners, and He will crush those who ignore or reject Him (Ps 5:4-6). Paul’s evangelism was based on the terror of the Lord (II Cor 5:11). It is a disgrace to mention God’s love and interview roomies about campus debauchery.
16. Jesus would say, “Repent!” When questioned about similar events in His day, Jesus Christ said, “Think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem? I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish” (Luke 13:1-5). But there is not the least thought from any quarter about self-examination, sin, repentance, or reformation.
17. Where is repentance? The blather and twaddle heard for two days is incredible. There is drivel about candlelight vigils, friends, memories, healing, delayed emails, and a troubled Cho. But there is no talk of God’s judgment, for God is not in all their thoughts (Ps 10:4)! Such events should inspire reformation! God would say, “Consider your ways!”
18. Safety is of the Lord (Pr 21:31). Universities and police departments can take whatever precautions they wish, but safety is only from the Lord (Ps 127:1). Since they do not grasp the depraved human heart or the devil, they will never even slow evil down. They continue to program violent infants without any fear of God and wonder why they hurt each other!
19. We must pray for America. Our nation has turned its back on one of the greatest heritages of godliness in human history. It is a pagan nation that flies in the face of Bible morality without fear. But as Jeremiah taught the captive Israelites in Babylon, we need to pray for the peace and prosperity of our captor nation for our own benefit (Jer 29:4-7).
20. The Lord Jesus Christ is a perfect Prince. The world and its inhabitants are insane, and the only man you can truly trust and love is Jesus Christ (Ps 73:25-26). Satan is Abaddon (Destroyer) and Apollyon (Destroyer), but Jesus Christ came to give the abundant life here and hereafter (John 10:10). Only a relationship with Jesus Christ will satisfy your soul.
21. The Bible is the only sane literature. If you want something to read, meditate upon, memorize, and share with others, make it the Bible. It is only truth, and it ridicules murder and suicide. It is only truth, and it brings great reward (Ps 19:7-11; 119:14,111,127). Why go to suicide poets, hallucinating poets, or demented thinkers in literature departments?
