He’s gone, the spotless soul is gone,
Triumphant to his place above;
The prison walls are broken down,
The angels speed his swift remove;
And shouting on their wings he flies,
And goes to rest in Paradise.
Hosanna! hosanna! hosanna to the Lamb of God,
Glory, glory, let us sing,
Grateful honors to our King,
Hosanna! hosanna! hosanna to the Lamb of God!
Saved by the merit of his Lord,
Glory and praise to Christ he gives;
He now enjoys the full reward,
The joys of heaven he now receives.
The life he lived while here below
Is proof that he’s at rest we know.
Glorious things of thee are spoken,
Zion, city of our God.
He whose Word cannot be broken
Formed thee for His own abode.
On the Rock of Ages founded,
What can shake thy sure repose?
With salvation’s walls surrounded,
Thou may’st smile at all thy foes.
See, the streams of living waters,
Springing from eternal love,
Well supply thy sons and daughters
And all fear of want remove.
Blest inhabitant of Zion
Washed in the Redeemer’s blood.
Jesus, whom their souls rely on
Makes them kings and priests to God.
Round each habitation hov’ring,
See the cloud and fire appear
For a glory and a cov’ring,
Showing that the Lord is near.
Thus deriving from their banner
Light by night and shade by day,
Thus they feed upon the manna
Which He gives them when they pray.
Savior, if of Zion’s city
I through grace a member am,
Let the world deride or pity,
I will glory in Thy name.
Fading is the worldlings’ pleasure,
All his boasted pomp and show;
Solid joys and lasting treasures
None but Zion’s children know.
More holiness give me,
More strivings within;
More patience in suff’ring,
More sorrow for sin;
More faith in my Savior,
More sense of His care.
More joy in His service,
More purpose in prayer.
More gratitude give me,
More trust in the Lord;
More pride in His glory,
More hope in His word;
More tears for His sorrows,
More pain at His grief;
More meekness in trial,
More praise for relief.
More purity give me,
More strength to o’ercome;
More freedom from earth-stains,
More longings for home;
More fit for the kingdom,
More useful I’d be;
More blessèd and holy,
More, Savior, like Thee
Earthly wealth and fame may never come to me,
And a palace fair here mine may never be;
But let come what may, if Christ for me doth care,
Anywhere is home, if He is only there.
Anywhere is home, let come and go what may;
Anywhere I roam, He keeps me all the way;
So for His dear sake, my cross I’ll meekly bear;
Anywhere is home, if Christ, my Lord, is there.
Oft I’m tossed about and driven by the foe,
Sad within, without, wherever I may go;
But I press along, still looking up in prayer,
For it’s home, sweet home, if Christ is only there.
I will labor on till I am called away,
Till the morn shall dawn of that eternal day,
Looking unto Him who keeps me in His care;
Anywhere is home, if Christ, my Lord, is there.
Do not I love Thee, Oh my Lord?
Behold my heart, and see,
And turn each cursed idol out,
That dares to rival Thee.
Do not I love Thee from my heart?
Then let me nothing love;
Dead be my heart to ev’ry joy
Which Thou dost not approve.
Is not Thy name melodious still
To my attentive ear?
Dost not each pulse with pleasure beat
My Savior’s voice to hear?
Hast Thou a lamb in all thy flock
I would disdain to feed?
Hast Thou a foe before whose face
I fear Thy cause to plead?
Thou know’st I love Thee, dearest Lord,
But Oh I long to soar
Far from the sphere of mortal joys,
That I may love Thee more.
How sweet the name of Jesus sounds
In a believer’s ear!
It soothes his sorrows, heals his wounds,
And drives away his fear,
And drives away his fear.
It makes the wounded spirit whole
And calms the troubled breast;
‘Tis manna to the hungry soul,
And to the weary, rest;
And to the weary, rest.
By Him my prayers acceptance gain
Although with sin defiled.
Satan accuses me in vain
And I am owned a child;
And I am owned a child.
Dear name the rock on which I build,
My shield and hiding place
My never failing treasury filled
With boundless stores of grace;
With boundless stores of grace.
Jesus, my shepherd, husband, friend,
My Prophet, Priest, and King,
My Lord, my Life, my Way, my End,
Accept the praise I bring;
Accept the praise I bring.
Weak is the effort of my heart,
And cold my warmest thought;
But when I see Thee as Thou art,
I’ll praise Thee as I ought;
I’ll praise Thee as I ought.
Till then I would Thy love proclaim
With every fleeting breath;
And may the music of Thy name
Refresh my soul in death;
Refresh my soul in death.
As the bright glowing light of the morning
Fills the land with a radiance fair,
So the wonderful grace that hast found me
Fills my heart, and it rests sweetly there.
I am safe in His love,
Oh I’m safe in His love
For a wonderful Savior is He;
I am safe in His love,
Oh I’m safe in His love;
In His mercy He saves even me.
I am safe in the fold of my Savior,
I will utter the praises that swell,
From my heart to my lips, but the glory
Of salvation I never can tell.
I rejoice in the love of my Savior,
To His will and His power I yield,
He has lifted me up, in His mercy,
He’s my helper, my strength and my shield.
Come, Holy Spirit, Come!
Let Thy bright beams arise;
Dispel the sorrow from our minds,
And open up our eyes.
Cheer our desponding hearts,
Thou heav’nly Paraclete.
Give us to lie with humble hope
At our Redeemer’s feet
Revive our drooping faith,
Our doubts and fears remove,
And kindle in our breasts the flame
Of never-dying love.
Convince us of our sin,
Then lead to Jesus’ blood,
And to our wondering view reveal
The secret love of God.
‘Tis Thine to cleanse the heart,
To sanctify the soul,
To pour fresh life into every part,
And new-create the whole.
Dwell, therefore, in our hearts;
Our minds from bondage free;
Then we shall know and praise and love
The Father, Son, and Thee.
Beneath the sacred throne of God
I saw a river rise;
The streams where peace and pard’ning blood
Descending from the skies.
Angelic minds cannot explore
This deep unfathomed sea,
Tis void of bottom, brim, or shore
And lost in Diety.
I stood amazed and wondered when
Or why this ocean rose;
That wafts salvation down to man,
His traitors and His foes.
That sacred flood from Jesus’ veins
Was free to take away;
And Mary’s or Manasseh’s stains,
Or sins more vile than they.
In the rifted Rock I’m resting;
Safely sheltered, I abide.
There no foes nor storms molest me,
While within the cleft I hide.
Refrain: Now I’m resting, sweetly resting,
In the cleft once made for me.
Jesus, blessed Rock of Ages,
I will hide myself in Thee.
Long pursued by sin and Satan,
Weary, sad, I longed for rest.
Then I found this heav’nly shelter
Opened in my Savior’s breast.
Peace which passeth understanding,
Joy the world can never give,
Now in Jesus I am finding;
In His smiles of love I live.
In the rifted Rock I’ll hide me
Till the storm of life is past;
All secure in this blest refuge,
Heeding not the fiercest blast.
Come, all ye chosen saints of God
Whose souls are washed in Jesus’ blood;
Hear what He says, His word is true:
“My grace sufficient is for you”
I am your sure almighty Friend,
Who loving loves you to the end;
I will be near you, and will show
My grace sufficient is for you.
I know how numerous are your foes,
I know the ways which they oppose,
I know their cunning malice too;
My grace sufficient is for you.
Tho’ Satan tries your souls to snare,
You’re still the objects of my care;
You’re near my heart, I’ll bring you through.
My grace sufficient is for you.
Do you want proof of this my love?
Calvary survey, then heaven above,
See how the ransomed millions do;
My grace sufficient is for you.
I’ll guide you safely in the way,
Through life’s dark night to heaven’s bright day;
And there with wonder you shall view
My grace sufficient is for you.
A wonderful Savior is Jesus my Lord,
A wonderful Savior to me;
He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock,
Where rivers of pleasure I see.
Refrain: He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock
That shadows a dry thirsty land;
He hideth my life in the depths of His love
And covers me there with His hand,
And covers me there with His hand.
A wonderful Savior is Jesus my Lord,
He taketh my burden away;
He holdeth me up, and I shall not be moved;
He giveth me strength as my day.
With numberless blessings each moment He crowns,
And filled with His fullness divine,
I sing in my rapture, oh, glory to God
For such a Redeemer as mine!
When clothed in His brightness, transported I rise
To meet Him clouds of the sky,
His perfect salvation, His wonderful love
I’ll shout with the millions on high.
O come, O come, Immanuel,
And ransom captive Israel
That mourns in lonely exile here
Until the Son of God appear.
Refrain: Rejoice! Rejoice! Immanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.
O come, O come, Thou Lord of might,
Who to your tribes on Sinai’s height
In ancient times didst give the law
In cloud and majesty and awe.
O come, Thou Root of of Jesse, free
Thine own from Satan’s tyranny,
From depths of sin Thy people save,
And give them victory o’er the grave.
There is a place of quiet rest,
Near to the heart of God,
A place where sin cannot molest,
Near to the heart of God.
Refrain: O Jesus, blest Redeemer,
Sent from the heart of God,
Hold us, who wait before thee,
Near to the heart of God.
There is a place of comfort sweet,
Near to the heart of God,
A place where we our Savior meet,
Near to the heart of God.
There is a place of full release,
Near to the heart of God,
A place where all is joy and peace,
Near to the heart of God.
As I travel through this pilgrim land,
There is a friend, who walks with me,
Leads me safely through the sinking sand;
It is the Christ of Calvary.
This would be my prayer dear Lord each day,
To help me do the best I can;
For I need the light to guide me day and night,
Blessed Jesus hold my hand.
Refrain: Jesus, hold my hand,
I need thee every hour.
Through, this pilgrim land,
Protect me by Thy power.
Hear my feeble plea,
O Lord, look down on me.
When I kneel in prayer,
I hope to meet you there.
Blessed Jesus hold my hand.
Let me travel in the light divine,
That I may see the blessed way.
Keep me that I may be wholly Thine
And sing redemption’s song some day.
I will be a soldier brave and true
And ever firmly take a stand.
As I onward go and daily meet the foe
Blessed Jesus hold my hand.
When I wander through the valley dim
Toward the setting of the sun,
Lead me safely to a land of rest
When I my race on earth have run.
I have put my faith in Thee, dear Lord,
That I may reach the golden strand.
There‘s no other friend on whom I can depend,
Blessed Jesus hold my hand.
Now the day is over,
Night is drawing nigh,
Shadows of the evening
Steal across the sky.
Jesus, give the weary
Calm and sweet repose;
With Thy tend’rest blessing
May our eyelids close.
When the morning wakens,
Then may I arise
Pure, and fresh, and sinless
In Thy holy eyes.
