Martyr Memorials

The martyrs of Jesus have a special place in God’s heart and in heaven (Heb 11:35-38; Rev 2:13; 6:9-11; 17:6), so we remember a martyr during our worship for a year now and then. Here are short reviews of their lives and faith for praise to God for their sacrifice, confidence, and fortitude and for us to arm ourselves with the same mind (I Pet 4:1-5; Heb 10:35-39).

Jaques Dosie

Jaques Dosie was martyred at 15 years old in Friesland, Netherlands after ably defending against infant baptism and baptismal regeneration.  He used Micaiah’s example against 400 false prophets to explain large numbers of adherents do not guarantee truth.

Joan Boucher

Joan Boucher, a Baptist, was martyred in 1550 during the Protestant reign of Edward VI for denying Mary was sinless. Her trial was presided over by Thomas Cranmer, Archbishop of Canterbury, against whom she ably defended herself. She was also a secret distributor of Tyndale’s New Testament in Henry VIII’s court.
